What is the purpose of the Suboxone Clinic?

The Suboxone Clinic at Priority Health provides quick and convenient access to a medication (Suboxone) that helps you detox and recover from an opioid addiction.

Suboxone combines two medications, naloxone and buprenorphine. These drugs work together to:

  • Stop opioid cravings
  • Prevent opioid withdrawal symptoms
  • Block the effects of opioids
  • Restore brain chemistry changed by opioid use

The team at Priority Health prescribes Suboxone in the outpatient clinic, allowing you to break an opioid addiction without checking yourself into an in-patient facility.

What signs indicate I need the Suboxone Clinic?

The addiction medicine specialists at the Suboxone Clinic welcome all patients who need help to stop taking opioids. The team offers treatment to everyone, whether they use heroin or prescription drugs like fentanyl, morphine, or oxycodone.

Signs you have opioid use disorder or an opioid addiction include:

  • Using your medication more often or longer than prescribed
  • Not keeping up with daily responsibilities due to opioid use
  • Spending too much time obtaining, using, or recovering from opioids
  • Giving up social and recreational activities you enjoy
  • Using opioids even though they cause health problems

The top three signs of an opioid addiction are uncontrollable cravings, needing to take larger or more frequent doses, and withdrawal symptoms if you miss a dose.

How does treatment at the Suboxone Clinic work?

At the Suboxone Clinic, the team follows a program called medication-assisted treatment (MAT). MAT includes medication to help you detox and therapy that supports your ongoing recovery.

Your Suboxone treatment is closely monitored by the Priority Health team. You take your first dose at the Suboxone Clinic so they can watch for withdrawal symptoms and make sure you have the right dose.

Then you take daily doses of Suboxone at home until it’s time for your next clinic appointment. Your prescription gives you enough medication to make it to your next appointment, but not beyond.

This is a thoughtful and purposeful approach because the only way to ensure your success is with frequent checkups. The team needs to be sure you don’t have cravings, withdrawal symptoms, or any other problems that require an adjustment to your dose.

After you detox, you can keep taking Suboxone or other medications to keep cravings away during your recovery.
