Karen Hanks, MD
Karen Hanks, MD, is an experienced and compassionate addiction medicine specialist at Priority Health. Dr. Hanks is board-certified in internal medicine and offers empathetic and trustworthy care to all her patients in Union City, Tennessee.
She is a native of Gibson County and has lived in Obion County for the last three years. Dr. Hanks attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, for her undergraduate coursework. She then obtained her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis. She completed her residency in internal medicine at James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City.
While most of her training was hospital-based, Dr. Hanks practiced in Middle Tennessee in a traditional medical practice setting that included clinic and hospital work. For years, her primary focus has included treating adults with chronic medical conditions ranging from hypertension to diabetes.
Recently, Dr. Hanks developed an interest in wellness and lifestyle’s roles in an individual’s well-being. Around a year ago, Dr. Daniel Sumrok introduced her to the field of addiction medicine. She is passionate about addressing the opiate pandemic and is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Priority Health in Union City was created to bring a new kind of healthcare to the region. Healthcare that is individualized, thoughtful, and combines quality care with convenience.
Dr. Hanks’s goal is to empower patients to be proactive and intentional about their mental and physical well-being. She believes living your best life means prioritizing your health and happiness. Whatever your goal — be it to lose weight, avoid taking blood pressure medicine, or address the chronic knee pain that keeps you from playing with your grandkids, Dr. Hanks would be honored to be your partner for a healthier and happier life.
